The second post in my LITA interview series is with Rebecca McGuire, Tech Specialist for the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs, a division of the University of Illinois. Rebecca has a really unique role where she assists with a 2-day leadership training program called Strengthening Innovative Library Leaders (SILL). Through group exercises, lectures, and role playing the program has assisted libraries in Namibia, Armenia, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Haiti, and Tunisia!
Just like the initial interview, Rebecca predicts that libraries will continue to be community centers- collaborative spaces that will continue to evolve to include more outreach where librarians travels outside library walls. Along with the fancy equipment she uses, she also relies upon WordPress and Canva. 2 web-based tools that allow users to create polished content.
My next interview will be with the new editor of Information Technology and Libraries (ITAL), Ken Varnum. This will be my first in-person interview, as he is traveling to Denver to participate in the 2017 LITA Forum. He has researched and published extensively in librarianship, so I’m curious to learn about his favorite technology and a little more about his journey.
